Matthew 27:11-54

Year A -Passion Sunday or Premature Fear Sunday
April 13, 2014

The agony of defeat without the thrill of victory gives an unbalanced view of the week ahead, whether your ordinary week or this one set apart by the church as having some additional value labeled holy.

With this truism out of the way, we can deal with a potential spoiler alert for Friday. (This is to suggest that a trailer for Friday should focus on the qualities of a Teflon Governor, obedient soldiers, and crowd by-standers. How they operate is more enlightening than getting prematurely to a revision of a culpa mea into triumphalism, “Truly this was . . . .”)

The better we understand the bit players, the better insight we will have into our own excuses for participation in the evil of our day.
